Hello!! It’s (finally) time for another instalment of InstaLIFE! You may have noticed that there hasn’t been one of these for quite some time, in fact not since the end of March, and that my blogging and social media-ing in general has been a bit erratic lately. Sorry about that, life has been getting in the way a lot lately! Fingers crossed it should all quieten down now so I can get back down to blogging hurrah! I thought I would do a quick round up of some of the things I have been up to in the month of April and – fingers crossed – should be back to normal posting as we get going with May! Yikes how is it May already?!?!
To celebrate my friend’s 30th we went to One Canada Square for their Bottomless Brunch. The idea is you have a set menu (really reasonably priced at £20 for 2 courses, £25 for 3) and then you can also choose to add Bottomless Drinks for 2 hours at another £20. The Bottomless Drinks were limited to Bellini’s, Bloody Mary’s, Prosecco, red wine, white wine and rose wine, but as I’d just had some stitches put in my back I didn’t indulge, but everyone who did said it was great! It did look very cool to be able to just order another glass of prosecco whenever you fancied without having to worry about the bill at the end! The restaurant was really nice and as there were about 20 of us we had our own private floor at the top of the restaurant. The staff were quite unfriendly but the food was pretty good and I went for a blue cheese salad to start – which was amazing – and a classic burger and skinny fries for my main. I was really tempted to get the white chocolate and pistachio brownie with popcorn flavoured ice cream for pudding but was way too full waahh!! We then headed to the Strongroom in Shoreditch for gin cocktails and dancing. What a great way to spend a Saturday!
We have been really lucky with the weather in London over Easter and it’s actually been pretty warm too! It’s been so nice to see all the flowers and blossoms on the trees come out and brighten up the streets. Sadly it’s been a bit cold and rainy so far this weekend (typical British Bank Holiday!) but fingers crossed the summer will bring lots more sunshine.
Really excitingly in April my friends Sam and Dan had their baby – a beautiful little girl called Phoebe. I went over to meet her the other week and she is just precious! I made up a little present package for baby Bee, mum and dad, all with a honey / bee theme, including two baby sleep suits with cute little bumble bees on, a Montagne Jeunesse Runny Honey Peel Off face mask, a Burts Bees gift set and a yellow candle for Sam, and a couple of bottles of Honey Dew beer for Dan. I can’t wait for more cuddles with Princess Phoebe soon!
It was Parkinson’s Awareness Week on 20-26th April, so I organised a charity bake sale at work to raise awareness of the condition and also money for Parkinson’s UK. Parkinson’s is a condition so close to the hearts of me and my family and it felt so so good to help out this fantastic charity. We ended up making £347.15 which I still can’t quite believe! I think I’m going to do a blog post about tips and hints for running a charity bake sale as this is something I definitely would have appreciated reading so let me know below if that’s something you’d like to see.
Last weekend we went to the Imperial War Museum with my boyfriend’s family, including his brand new baby nephew who was just a few weeks old! We had a really good time and it was nice to check out the Museum which has just finished a massive refurbishment and was half closed last time we went. It’s absolutely huge now and there’s so much to see. The Holocaust exhibition is particularly well done and is incredibly moving. We also had a fab catch up with Toto’s family, meeting little Alex and playing with his other nephew Myles. I was so tempted to buy this adorable box of wooden biscuits in the gift shop too but managed to restrain myself! I then went back to my parents house and had a really good film night with my dad, watching Captain Phillips, which is one of my favourite movies ever! You can’t beat a bit of family time can you?!
I signed up to my first ever beauty subscription box this month – Love Me Beauty. I first heard about it from watching Maddie Bruce’s video (who’s fast becoming one of my fave YouTubers) and am so impressed with the idea. I’ve always been a bit put off ordering other subscription boxes as I have quite sensitive skin so have to be very careful about what products I use, but Love Me Beauty lets you choose what products you receive. Cool eh?! They have amazing brands and I received a full sized Lord & Berry Intensity Satin Lipstick (Chiffon), full sized Ofra Long Lasting Liquid Lipstick in Palm Beach and a sample sized Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara which I’ve been wanting to try for aaaaages! It all came packaged with a LMB dust bag inside a gorgeous silver and rose gold branded box, along with the fabulous (and so true) quote “I have too much make up! Said no woman, ever”. I’m so impressed with this beauty box and will definitely be getting at least another few month’s worth. (And of course will let you know what I get in these too!)
Yesterday I had a little shopping trip on Oxford Street and of course had to stop into the Disney Store for a little looksie! They had the new Tsum Tsum’s in and I am obsessed with the miniature ones – look how cute they are! I couldn’t resist buying a Donald Duck one and also have my eye on a Dumbo, Marie and Sven one too!
You’re never too old for cuddly toys right?!
Last night a group of us went for dinner at The Joint in Marylebone for my friend’s birthday. I have to say I was pretty unimpressed by the food (my ribs were served on a paper plate and looked a little bit like something you’d get at your mate’s BBQ!) However it was fab to catch up with my friends and we had these incredible Thyme Collins cocktails, which were made with gin, lemon, agave, soda and of course thyme, and we’re so scrummy, they slipped down far too easily!
Today I woke up early to get some blogging done with a nice hot drink (in my awesome mug!) and a few of my new favourite (almost) guilt free treats – Weight Watchers Bourbon Creams* and Weight Watchers Custard Creams* biscuits. You can’t beat a good biscuit, especially on a Sunday morning and these ones are absolutely delicious. They’re just as tasty as their traditional counterparts, despite the fact they’re not the expected sandwich format. Each is a single layer biscuit with an inlaid cream section (Belgian chocolate and cocoa cream in the Bourbon, and Madagascan vanilla and cream in the Custard Cream) YUM!!! The ratio of biscuit to cream is just right for me and I love that there’s only 51 calories per Bourbon and 52 calories per Custard Cream. They each come in a really handy resealable pack which keeps them really fresh, and makes it easy to monitor just how many you’re eating! I definitely recommend giving these a go if you’re looking for a sweet treat without wanting to over indulge.
*Thanks so much Weight Watchers for sending me these scrumptious biscuits and awesome mug. All thoughts are honest and my own. For more information please see my Disclaimer Page.
I live in Brixton in London. I eat out far too much, am always planning my next trip and have a borderline unhealthy obsession with Harry Potter.
