Favourites // June 2018

July 25, 2018

Hello hello, it’s me with another spectacularly late Favourites post! I did actually have this written by 1st July but life got in the way and here we are 24 days later with it FINALLY edited, formatted and photographed. ANYHOO. June was a long old month – super fun in some ways with all sorts of activities and days out, but I also moved for the fourth time in two years which was all kinds of horrendous. Good lord I’ve horded a lot of shit for the past 14 years! I left my family home when I was 18 and haven’t been back properly since so my poor parents have been storing my various boxes of – what can only be described as – useless crap. Thanks guys! I decided it was time to wade through the old junk properly this time rather than just adding to the pile, which ended up being quite a big job! BUT I have now actually made the move hurrah! I’m not sure I’d recommend moving on the hottest day of the year with a banging hangover, but I lived to tell the tale and I’m now living in Brixton with Andy and it’s going great so far. It’s a bit of a bold move as there’s definitely something at his house I’m allergic to, so hashtag pray for Emsy and I’ll keep you posted! In the meantime – on with the June Faves.

Thames Rockets

Andy and I celebrated our 1 year anniversary mid June so I organised a RIB speed boat trip down the Thames. A bit extra?! It was AMAZING! We did the Thames Rockets Ultimate London Experience, which was 50 minutes long, and started at the London Eye, toured with commentary down to the Houses of Parliament, then looped back around and went down the Thames, past the Tower of London, under Tower Bridge, past Town Hall and exited the speed restriction zone. This is when the fun really began! The power ballads were blasted out, the speed was cranked up and we flew down the river with all sorts of jazzy turns and twists thrown in for a really fun, thrilling ride. I can’t recommend Thames Rockets enough, and I’ll definitely use them again. They often do 241 tickets and offers so keep an eye out. I got our seats buy one get one free, so was only £40. Bargain!

Royal Albert Hall – Hans Zimmer vs John Williams

Back to the Royal Albert Hall! If you read my May Favourites you’ll know that I went to see Planet Earth II Live in Concert – which was A-MAZING – so I was very excited to return to the RAH mid June. I am a sucker for a movie soundtrack and have seen the Jurassic Park theme performed several times at the venerable music venue so it was a real treat to go again for a collection of the best works of John Williams and Hans Zimmer. Whilst I’ve seen similar concerts here in the past, this was by far the most entertaining. The orchestra had so much energy, the accompanying laser and light show was incredible and the conductor and host Anthony Inglis was so funny – even dressing up as Darth Vader for the finale. And yes I bawled happy tears throughout the Jurassic Park theme. As always.

Jurassic World 2 – Fallen Kingdom

Talking of Jurassic Park – how bloody good was Jurassic World 2 – Fallen Kingdom?! On our actual anniversary, Andy and I went to our favourite restaurant Aqua Kyoto for incredible sushi, then walked down across the river to the BFI IMAX to watch JW2. God I love this film franchise, it really is the gift that keeps on giving! Yes it was probably the worst of the 5 films but I still absolutely loved it! The acting was fab and I’m a little bit in love with the idea that dinosaurs really could roam the earth with us. I do wish they’d stop inventing new dinosaurs though. It just makes the whole thing so implausible….I also loved all the promo they did around the film, and made a trip to King’s Cross Station at an UNGODLY hour on a Saturday morning to check out the giant T-Rex and Velociraptors they had on display. Roarsome.

PANDORA Classic Elegance Necklace

How beautiful is this necklace please? You may have seen my blog post about the lovely evening I spent making flower crowns with PANDORA, where I was lucky enough to be given this beautiful Classic Elegance necklace. I’ve been wearing it non stop! I just think it’s absolutely gorgeous! It’s so sparkly and elegant, yet so simple – it’s been perfect for wearing everyday, adding a bit of glitz to my outfit. I love pieces like this which don’t just have to be saved for special events (especially as I rarely go to any!) but I also can’t wait to wear it to the wedding I’m going to in October.

I freaking love this film! I went to see it three times at the cinema when it came out last year and my crush on The Rock was my biggest surprise of 2017 (I thought I’d be alllll about Zac Efron!) My brother gave me the DVD for my birthday a record breaking four months late, so my love for it has been reignited all over again. I think I had it on three times in a row while I did my packing to move – it’s the perfect light hearted film to have on in the background which you can dip in an out of. Unless of course you haven’t seen it, in which case I insist you sit and watch it properly, giving it the undivided attention it deserves. Thank me later.

I signed up for banger of a bargain 3 months of Spotify Premium for just 99p in June. And I am LOVING IT! It’s got so many songs, and some really great playlists too. I’m pretty sure the 99p deal is still on too if you want to get in on the action. I am particularly enjoying the Independent Ladies playlist which features some absolute classics from the likes of Destiny’s Child, Eve, Missy Elliot and Miley Cyrus.

Football World Cup

Now I never thought I’d say this, but… I WAS LIVING FOR THE WORLD CUP! I’ve always liked watching big sporting competitions, but mostly as it’s a good excuse to grab your mates and head down the pub for a few pints. Lads lads lads. However, I was actually really into the game itself this year! Andy’s a huge football fan and has basically been training me for the last year to like it as well, to give him all the free football watching passes! I took part in his friend’s sweepstake too, which involved picking 8 teams of various levels and scoring points for each goal and win etc, which was really fun as it kept me interested even if England weren’t playing. And didn’t our boys do us proud? It was so great to have the whole country united and even the greatest sceptics thought that football just might be coming home this time. While we didn’t quite cinch the Cup, it certainly gave us all a bit of fire in our bellies to a level which I don’t remember from any other World Cup in the last 30 years. And also, Loftus Cheek is well fit. Swoon.

Love Island

Well of course it was going to be included! Who was I kidding a few weeks ago when I thought it was only an OK series which wouldn’t have me hooked! I’ve gone very up and down with this year – I hate that it’s gone down the very edited and staged route and contestants clearly being told what to say – loyal anyone?! – but it keeps drawing me back in! Current thoughts are – I love Dani – everyone needs a friend like her, I want to give Laura a hug, and I really dislike Wes and Kaz. GET DANNY DYER IN THAT VILLA!

Oral B 3D White Luxe Glamorous White Toothpaste

This toothpaste is a literal game changer! Like most people, I’m always after ways to brighten up my smile, and I’ve been pretty annoyed over the years from using products which claim to give me pearly whites, but actually make little difference. SAY HELLO TO ORAL B GLAMOROUS WHITE! I was actually introduced to this by Andy and I’ve gotta say, it’s one of the best things he’s bought to my life! The results are definitely noticeable and build up pretty quickly too, and while there are different flavours in the range, the Glamorous White taste is really nice – fresh yet not over powering. It’s also great to find a product which works really well but doesn’t cost an arm and a leg – you can often find it on offer at Boots and Superdrug for 2 tubes for £6! They also have a Whitening Accelerator in the range too, which I’m very excited to try. Watch this space.

So there we go – possibly the latest Favourites post on record! I hands on heart promise that July will be live in the first week of the month! July is shaping up a bit more chilled and settled than the moving frenzy that was June – lots of gymming, holiday planning, settling in and exploring my new home and catching up with old friends.

See you next week…. I promise!
