It’s June. It’s summer. Where is my summer body please? Oh yeh, I was meant to work on that wasn’t I. Hands up – I was quite lax in the gym department in May, yes, even after giving it the big I am in April! I’m getting back on it for June though – nothing like the return of Love Island for some gymspiration! My arm muscles have actually been yearning for a bit of Body Pump – apparently they’re not satisfied lifting pints of beer and slices of pizza….! Besides my lack of gymming I had a great May – what’s not to love about two bank holidays eh?! We were so lucky to actually have some awesome weather to enjoy too! I survived the GDPR deadlines at work – thank Christ that’s over! – had a glorious week in Tuscany, went to London Zoo and got to spend lots of time with my dad and best mates, including a trip to the Royal Albert Hall to see Planet Earth II Live in Concert. Ermagaaaaaahdsoooooogoooooddd!
Let’s kick start with the biggie shall we! Andy planned our Tuscany trip for my birthday and we flew into Pisa, spent a day and night there and then got the train down to Florence. It was absolutely stunning, I’ve never seen architecture like it, and the views across the city from the hills were amazing. It was fairly stormy when we were there so we didn’t make it up into the hillside vineyards unfortunately but that just gives us an excuse to go back. We had so much fun wandering around, stopping here and there for beers and buratta and just generally had such a lovely time. I’ll have some blogs up soon about it, but for a sneak peek check out my Instagram.
We went to London Zoo over the first bank holiday weekend, which is one of our favourite places in London. It was the first time I’ve been since I volunteered on a game reserve in South Africa, and it’s definitely very different seeing these beautiful creatures in captivity. However they all seemed pretty well taken care of and happy which was good. Andy and I always seem to have some really good animal encounters when we go together, and this time got to see the two baby gorillas frolicking together, including one of them wandering around with a sack on his head and falling over repeatedly which was ADORABLE! And a snake eating a rabbit whole. Which was less adorable. But still pretty epic! The London Zoo lates are coming back this summer so we’ll definitely be making a trip back for these too.
Planet Earth II Live in Concert at the Royal Albert Hall
In the middle of the month we took a trip to the Royal Albert Hall to see Planet Earth II accompanied by a live orchestra. We actually originally bought two sets of tickets for this, each buying for the other for Christmas and neither of us – thankfully – able to keep it a secret from each other! It was absolutely amazing and bought tears to both of our eyes it was so magical haha! Yep we’re *that* couple! We also got tickets to a talk with Chadden Hunter afterwards too, who was one of the producers on the series. It was such a wonderful day – it’s always a treat to go to the Royal Albert Hall – it so beautiful, and the music really was incredible to hear live and with sections of the show played on the big screen. They also surprised us with ACTUAL HANS ZIMMER coming out on stage which was awesome! My best friends Kiffy and James also got tickets so we had a great time having drinks afterwards as well. The perfect Sunday (resulting in a terribly hungover Monday!) We’ve got tickets to Blue Planet Live in Concert for March 2019 too, so hopefully that will be just as epic.
I’m a big fan of Seventeen, it’s one of the few beauty brands I’m guaranteed not to have an allergic reaction to. So I was pretty devastated to find they’re now discontinuing the brand booooo! However this does mean their whole range is up to 70% off online – I’ve been stocking up right nice I can tell ya! I made sure to load up on their B.B. Cream which is my ultimate go to, as well as some foundations, highlighter and eye shadow, and also picked up these Mirror Shine Lipsticks in Pouty and Belle for just £1.49 each. Obsessed! They’re really pretty colours and super easy to wear – either giving a sheer wash of colour or buildable for a more opaque look. Go go go!
Yes Love Island season 4 is back with a vengeance, and like any true fan, I got prepared by rewatching my favourite season over on Netflix! I loved Season 2 – it was the first one I watched religiously and also think it was the best one – where the contestants went in for more than just scoring a blue tick on Twitter and a clothing range with In The Style. Plus who could forget the moment Malin went back in to confront Terry for banging Emma the second she was out the villa?! QUALITY TV VIEWING!! I’m sure I’ll have plenty to say about the new series this time next month, let me know your thoughts below. So far I think it’s a bit of a slow burn with noone I’m particularly loving, but I’m hoping Adam, Eyal and Hayley are out ASAP! Ohhh I’m getting sucked in already!
A fashion favourite this month – this cute little polka dot cami from Primark. It’s super lightweight, making it perfect for wearing in the muggy weather we’ve been having, is just the right length and I love the v-neck and v-back. Plus it was only £4! I’m tempted to buy a back up in case I somehow lose / destroy / wear out this one! Well for £4 it would be silly not too. They’ve got it in loads of other patterns too so I definitely need to grab one in some form or another.
I’m a sucker for a good candle and lighting one as soon as I get home is part of my daily routine – straight after bra off, hair up. I got this beauty from Primark, and originally bought it just because I liked the look of it, but it actually has a lovely light floral scent which fills the room nicely. It’s so nice in the summery evenings and I’ll definitely be repurchasing when this one runs out.
Bit of a random one here, but my mum went away in holiday for a week at the end of May so I got to keep their car at my house wahooo! My dad had to go and stay at a respite care home for a week while she was away, so I drove over frequently to hang out with him and give him a bit of company. I’d never really driven on my own before so was a bit nervous but I loved it! It’s made me so much more confident, given me experience of following a satnav and – most importantly – let me have the radio on as loud as I want it when driving! It helps that they’ve got a convertible too so I was able to cruise around with the hood down and enjoy the sun at the same time. Note to self though, people can hear your road rage swears when the roof is down. Soz and that.
I live in Brixton in London. I eat out far too much, am always planning my next trip and have a borderline unhealthy obsession with Harry Potter.
