Summertime memories are the best and I’m always looking for ways to incorporate them into my home to help me keep the summer dream alive. We’re so lucky with the U.K. high street that there are so many stylish pieces for really reasonable prices, so no matter what look you’re trying to recreate, you’ll be spoiled for choice with good quality goodies. Harvey’s* (the furniture specialists) challenged me to put together my favourite pieces to bring a Riverside Luxe look to my (decidedly not riverside, unluxe) home. Just because we don’t all live in a luxurious riverside apartment, doesn’t mean we can’t pretend we do! I had a whale of a time shopping for everything and found some stunning pieces which fit the brief perfectly without breaking the (river!) bank…
To me, Riverside Luxe is all about bringing together chic industrial elements with nautical touches and lush foliage – suggesting a plush, no expense spared apartment, with killer views over a beautiful flowing river.
I combined bright whites with accents of glass, copper, marble and mirror to suggest airy, open loft spaces – industrial yet very chic. Touches of wood, greenery and splashes of blue echo the natural beauty of a river. The juxtaposition of the two styles shows how wonderfully nature and architecture can come together. They’re all fairly practical ways of introducing the theme to your home too, so great if you’re short on space and don’t have room for purely decorative pieces – patterned plates are a great way to store your trinkets and make up, and if you’re going to frame a picture, why not use one which reminds you of your favourite holiday memories, just as much as the photo within does?
It’s not just home furnishings which can create an environment of Riverside Luxe, the trend can be met with fashion accessories too. This rope style floppy hat would be perfect to wear on the balcony looking out across the river, and it’s cute slogan means it would look just as lovely hung up on a hook as it would being worn. Mirror lens sunglasses, as well as being so on trend right now, echo the reflective surface of the river and the huge windows your riverside apartment would have. This marble print cosmetics bag is lovely luxe way to keep your bits and pieces tidy – practical and pretty.
