Hello September! Summer is officially over, though I have to say the last couple weeks of August were definitely more like Autumn than Summer with endless days of non stop rain. Le sigh! August turned out to be a bit of a crazy month for me – I was ill at the beginning with summer flu, and then had a super busy work schedule the rest of the month, AND had a couple of weekends away, so I didn’t get as much blogging done as I’d have liked (sorry!) September looks set to to be a very busy month too but hopefully I can still get my blog on as much as I’d like. So anyway, on with my favourite things of August 2015.
I bought this Maybelline Colour Sensational Popstick quite a long time ago from Fragrance Direct and was really disappointed when it arrived and I realised it wasn’t a bright fuschia lipstick but more of a sheer lip balm. I shoved it to the back of my collection and forgot about it until I randomly stumbled back across it at the beginning of August – and it’s not left my handbag since! It really helped re-moisturise my lips after being ill and gives a pretty pink sheen which is quite buildable. I also adore the packaging of this product and am so sorry I dismissed it for so long! Love you now Popstick!
I’ve never tried Palmer’s Cocoa Butter moisturiser before but after getting really badly sun burnt on a day trip to Brighton at the beginning of the month, this is now an absolute fave! I was staying at my parents’ house the weekend I got burnt so didn’t have all my usual lotions and potions but don’t think anything would have been as good as my mum’s Palmer’s anyway! It’s so thick and moisturising it was just the job for my very sore shoulders (note to self: never forget to pack suncream!) It absorbs very well and also smells absolutely incredible – just like chocolate! I’ll definitely be buying more of this to get me through the winter months, when my skin gets very dehydrated (and had better buy my mum a new bottle too, as I pinched hers!)
This is one of my all time favourite nail polishes! Models Own Hyper Gel polishes are brilliant quality, especially as they’re only £5 each, and this bright vibrant turquoise is my go-to nail colour, particularly on my toes. It looks fab all year round but especially in summer and adds a flash of vibrancy to every outfit.
Day Trip to Brighton
At the beginning of the month I took a day off work for a day trip to Brighton to see my little cousins who were on their school holidays. My mum, aunt, cousins and I had such a fun day having a picnic on the beach, wander through The Lanes (including obligatory stop at Choccywoccydoodah), some rides on the pier and a lovely fish and chips dinner. It was such a great day and so nice to catch up with my family. You can’t beat Brighton in the sunshine!
Soreen Lunchbox Loaves
Food favourite alert! I have become OBSESSED with these mini Soreen Lunchbox Loaves! A favourite food of mine when I was little, I’d completely forgotten about Soreen until one of my friends at work bought the mini versions purely as they had Minions on the front (gotta love successful advertising!) I saw them in my local Sainsburys and couldn’t resist trying them again. They’re so tasty and actually pretty healthy and make a really good mid-morning or pre-gym snack giving me loads of energy. The mini snack packs are more expensive than the regular size loaves but for the convenience of just being able to throw one in my bag I don’t mind. Yum!
My new TV obsession is Narcos, a Netflix own series about Pablo Escobar and the
Medellin Cartel. If you like Breaking Bad, you’ll love this! It was only released at the end of August but my boyfriend and I binged watched the first half of the series over the bank holiday weekend and I can’t wait to see what happens in the last few episodes.
I love a good audio book and find I “read” much more through them than with an actual book as I’m always on the go – this way I can read whilst on the move. In August I was listening to Holly Madison’s autobiography Down the Rabbit Hole: Curious Adventures and Cautionary Tales of a Former Playboy Bunny and it gives a great insight into her life inside the Playboy mansion as Hef’s main girlfriend. It was so interesting to hear about the mysterious and legendary world and Holly came across as so down to earth, likeable and intelligent, even more so than she does on screen in Girls Next Door. She’s also a really talented vocal reader (which in my opinion makes or breaks an audiobook) and her impressions of Hef are spot on!
I adore candles and burn them nonstop during the winter. I worked from home a few days in August loved having this Stoneglow White Linen scented candle burning while I beavered away. I love linen scents and this one leaves my home smelling really clean and fresh. It burns nice and evenly too.
Primark Disney pumps
You may have spotted these in my recent Primark Haul but I am literally OBSESSED!! Every near-30 year old needs obnoxiously garish Disney trainers right?!
I am a right bag lady and am always lugging at least one extra bag as well as my handbag. My mum gave me this really lovely London printed canvas one for my birthday and I’ve been taking it to work with me everyday recently. It’s the perfect size as it has extra side flaps, so I can fit larger parcels etc in, without it being too bulky if I only have a few bits and bobs in. It also has really wide, thick sturdy straps which are so comfortable. I’m a London girl through and through and adore the illustration of the Southbank, which has always been a favourite place of mine.
