Beauty | Samy Fat Hair “0” Calories Thickening Shampoo and Conditioner

April 7, 2014

Big hair don’t care!

I feel like all I do is bang on about my desire for thick, voluminous hair (remember my Tangle Teezer review?! #SorryNotSorry) So when I saw Samy Fat Hair “0” Calories Thickening Shampoo and Conditioner on sale in Superdrug for less than half price (only £2.77 each!) I just had to give them a go.

I quite like the packaging – its bold, bright and simple, promising Fat hair with zero calories, and it was actually this strapline which drew me in (I’ll try anything which is zero calories, food or not!!) I like that the bottles are quite tall and thin too, as I find my jumbo Tresemme bottles are just too big and take up one corner of the bath each, where as these look nice and neat snuggled together so tidily.

So onto the important bit, the actual product itself. Do they indeed give me fat hair?!

Yes they do!!!! (Well, fat might be an overstatement, but there is definitely a marked improvement and what, for me, is actually a bit of volume and thickness!) WAHOOO!!!

The back of the shampoo bottle states that…

This revolutionary sulfate free, 100% vegan, thickening shampoo is the first step towards thicker, fuller, stronger hair. Samy’s exclusive Thickening Complex – a blend of natural proteins and extract – nourishes each hair strand resulting in thicker, fuller, stronger, healthier looking hair.

I completely agree with all of this! My hair does feel a lot fuller and stronger after using these products. I also like that they are sulfate and paraben free, as I have quite sensitive skin and find some products can be quite harsh on my scalp, however this is not a problem with these products.

I’m so impressed with this shampoo and conditioner that I’ve already gone out and bought a second bottle of each. Well, at only £2.77 each it would be rude not to! However, I’d still re-buy if they were full price too as £5.59 is still a pretty good bargain for such wonder products! I also treated myself to another couple of products from the range – the Root Lifter Spray and Thickening Spray, so will post reviews on these too once I’ve given them a go.

The only thing I can’t decide on with the Samy Fat Hair Shampoo and Conditioner is the smell. Its a bit weird, and I just cannot put my finger on what it is! It reminds me slightly of marzipan, or (oddly) the taste of Haribo Tangfastic cola bottles (I did say it was odd!!) Its not unpleasant, just not as I expected! I thought it would either have quite a floral scent as most shampoos do, or even a slightly chemical-esque one as some of the more boutique brands can. This seems to be somewhere in between (and apparently with an almond / artifical cola fragrance to it!) If you’ve used this product please do tell me what it smells like to you, as I think my nose may have just gone a bit crazy and confused!

I’m really pleased with this product, and it has definitely launched itself to the top of my favourite volumising and thickening hair products!

What other thickening shampoos should I be trying out? Let me know below!

This is such a good price! Might have to try at some point. You should try the L'Oreal Filloxane version. I reviewed it over on my blog not so long ago
