I’d seen a lot of hype in the blogosphere about this product being released in the UK so thought I’d see what all the fuss is about! Tinted lip balms are my favourite way of adding some colour to my lips, as I often find standard lipsticks leave my lips looking dry, I hate getting my hair stuck in my lip gloss, and most of all, you don’t need a mirror to apply them! Perfect for a low maintenance Pickle like myself! So did Baby Lips live up to all the hype?
Yes yes and yes! These were even better than I thought they would be, and I’ve been wearing them constantly since purchasing! I saw them in Superdrug shortly after their release and decided to buy one to try it out – at only £2.99 if I didn’t it, it wouldn’t be a great loss! I chose Pink Punch (pink and yellow packaging), a gorgeous bright pink colour, which I figured would actually translate into a pretty sheer, paler pink on the lips. The colour is actually very true to its tube appearance – a really gorgeous candy pink. It smells sugary sweet too, with a pleasant fruity smell and taste which reminds me a bit of those 1p fruit salad sweets (remember them?!). The formula is also really nice, applying smoothly and leaving my lips feelings really moisturised and lubricated, but without the stickiness often found with gloopy lip glosses.
I decided I HAD to try the other colours and on my return to Superdrug found there was now a 3 for 2 offer on – hurrah! I bought the other two coloured Baby Lips – Cherry Me (orange and pink packaging) and Peach Kiss (purple and beige packaging) as well as Mint Fresh (green and purple packaging), one of the colourless offerings.
Cherry Me leaves a lovely pink colour on the lips (darker and more purple toned red than Pink Punch, but nowhere near a true red), and smells gorgeously of cherry flavoured Chupa Chupp lollies – YUM! Peach Kiss gives a nude shimmer and smells of sugary sweet peaches! The only thing I don’t like about Peach Kiss is it contains tiny glitter particles, which always seem to find their way all over my face, and remind me a bit of little kids pretend make up! Mint Fresh adds a clear shine to the lips but doesn’t smell too minty, it actually almost smells a bit of thyme, or eucalyptus, however it does feel quite menthol-tingly when applied.
The packaging boasts that Baby Lips will leave your lips hydrated for up to 8 hours, and I’m not sure I would agree with this. They make my lips feel nice and soft whilst I am wearing them, but don’t feel much difference when I’m not. However, as they’re all so yummy smelling and looking I’ve been wearing them pretty much non-stop since I bought them! I even add a slick of Mint Fresh every night before bed, to give an injection of moisture while I sleep (and no, not in place of brushing my teeth as my lovely boyfriend joked :)!) They do have some pretty good ingredients in them though, including shea butter and aloe – and the colourless ones also have SPF 20 – great for the lowly price of £2.99 each!
