January is over and out (and didn’t it drag on?!) I can’t believe we’re in February already though, it seems that this year is set to go by just as quickly as the last! Christmas seems like a lifetime ago but February brings its own celebrations in the shape of pancake day, Valentine’s Day and my 30th birthday yikes! It’s also a leap year so who knows what magic might come with an extra day?! Before I get too excited about what’s to come I thought I’d have a little look back at my favourite things from January.
A couple of weeks ago I went on a ski holiday with my boyfriend and 12 of our best friends to Val Thorens in France and it was one of the absolute best holidays of my life! I want to do a full post about it (watch this space) so won’t go into too much detail here but I had so much fun frolicking in the mountains with some of my favourite people and the scenery was absolutely breathtaking. I’m still a rubbish skier but I enjoyed it a lot more this time than I ever have before and even if I had a bad afternoon on the slopes, après ski fun with my friends made it all worthwhile. My boyfriend and I always buy a magnet of places we’ve been to which is what I’ve included in the photos here, I’ll include some actual photos from the trip in my full post. You can have a peek at my Instagram page for a little preview though!
I thought I’d stick (hehehe…) with the lifestyle theme and talk about my new Amazon FireTVStick. We got given this for Christmas and it’s brilliant! We couldn’t previously have actual TV on the telly in our bedroom, so I’d always just have DVDs on or watch YouTube on my iPad. Not anymore! This bad boy simply plugs into the back of my TV and let’s me watch Netflix, iPlayer etc on my TV. Brillopads!
Another thing I got for Christmas was the Pretty Little Liars books. My brother and his fiancé know how much I love the TV series so thought I’d love the books too. I’ve always really enjoyed seeing how books are adapted for film / TV and what changes are made and it’s so interesting seeing what parts of the show are totally new, what was inspired by the book series and also just how different they are! I’ve just finished the sixth book and whilst I definitely prefer the TV show, I’m really enjoying the books. I also want to read a lot more in 2016 (I really got back into reading in the second half of 2015) and these are perfect for a quick wind down before bed – super simple and easy to take in (I’m about double their target demographic haha!).
My last lifestyle favourite is this Sea Salt Breeze scented candle from Primark. I included a sea salt scented candle in my September 2015 favourites post and unfortunately I haven’t been able to find another one of those anywhere wahhh! Luckily Primark came to the rescue with this gorgeous jar candle for just £3. Bargain! It smells amazing – nice and fresh and clean, and burns really well and lasts for a long time. I’ve already gone out and bought a couple more (which is why the one above is brand new) and I’m so tempted to buy a whole bulk load in case they ever stop making them!
I’ve got one fashion favourite this month – this beautiful pearl and silver spike cuff from Stella and Dot. I’ve never owned anything from this brand before but I absolutely love it and will definitely be having a look at the rest of their range! Cuff bangles are my favourite style of bracelet and I love how unique this one is. The pearl is super girly but the spike gives it a tough edge and it looks amazing with everything I wear – dressy or casual. Pearls also have a special meaning in my heart as it’s what I call my mum. Aww!
Before Christmas I got acrylics and absolutely LOVED THEM! I can’t wait to get new ones put on this week ready for my birthday on Sunday but my word they wrecked my nails! I had them taken off just before I went skiing and my nails were so thin and weak I spent all week trying to save them as they snapped and flaked away – ew! One thing has really helped nurse my nails back to health and surprisingly it was just a pound or so from Primark! The PS Cuticle Oil has given my nails back so much strength and health. The nail polish brush means it’s so easy to apply and it absorbs really easily, so you’re not left with hands dripping in oil. I’ve been keeping this on my desk at work and applying it a couple of times a day to really hydrate my nails.
I took the OGX Renewing Argan Oil of Morocco Shampoo and Conditioner away with me on my ski trip and loved it! I always find my hair takes a bit of a battering when skiing as it is crammed into a helmet during the day with the ends exposed to below freezing temperatures and snow. In the evening it’s then blasted with a hair dryer as it’s far too cold to let it dry naturally. The OGX Renewing Argan Oil range however meant my hair still felt soft and nourished and smelt amazing! I’ve featured OGX products in my favourites before and am so excited to discover more of their products as I’ve loved everything I’ve tried so far. They have a couple of new launches coming, out this February – the Niacin3 & Caffeine and Coconut Curls ranges, both of which I was kindly given at their press show last year, so keep your eyes peeled for full reviews of those.
Let me know what your favourite things in January were.
I live in Brixton in London. I eat out far too much, am always planning my next trip and have a borderline unhealthy obsession with Harry Potter.
