Now I can’t wait for Christmas!
I love reading, I love Christmas and I love the idea of being slim! 🙂 So when I was sent a copy of Ruth Saberton’s new festive novella Weight Till Christmas* I was super excited, as it combines all 3! And I know you’re not supposed to judge a book by it’s cover, but just look at how fabulously festive it is!
Weight Till Christmas tells the story of Ellie Summers (or Ellie Phant as she’s often referred to!) – a twenty something girl who has two loves in her life – gorgeously out-of-her-league co-worker Drake, and Dairy Milk chocolate! After a series of weight related mishaps, Ellie decides that enough is enough. If she can only lose enough weight to fit into her dream dress by the night of the staff Christmas party, Drake may just notice her and all her dreams will come true! Right?! What could go wrong….?!
It’s a simple plot, and one which every girl will identify with. This makes it lots of fun to read, but also a teeny bit predictable at times. I found myself correctly guessing how the book would end quite early on, but didn’t really mind as it was such a light pleasant read, and Ellie was such a fun character to follow. And, Christmas is all about tradition, suspense and guessing what presents you’ll get eh! The fun, uncomplicated storyline makes it perfect for reading in the lead up to Christmas. It’s a slice of light hearted relief which will also get you nicely geared up for the festive period, as alongside Ellie you navigate a countdown to Christmas laden with all the trimmings; present buying, Christmas carols, holiday parties and of course, mince pies! Its just the sort of book I like to read whist getting the tube into town to do my Christmas shopping!
Weight Till Christmas is told from Ellie’s point of view and we get to read her hilarious private thoughts and sarcastic, witty observations (many of which are about her lean, mean co-worker Sticky Vicky). Ellie is the sort of character every girl will identify with, seeing not only themselves but their best friends in her too!
I also loved the character of Sam, Ellie’s best friend, who is an absolute sweetheart. Sam helps Ellie on her weight loss mission, as well as supporting her in other areas of her life – and comes out with some hilarious one liners along the way! I also really enjoyed Rick and Nick her comical co-workers who pop up in the middle of the book and are a brilliant double act! I would have liked to see even more of them in the story!
Weight Till Christmas was a very enjoyable read. A simple, light, uncomplicated story which will gear you up for the holiday season and offer some feel-good festive fun. I now can’t wait for Christmas (9 weeks to go eeek!) and am even inspired to go on a little health kick myself before the Big Day arrives!
Will you be picking up a copy of Weight Till Christmas? xx emsypickle xx
