I love brightening up my look with a bit of lip colour so couldn’t wait to try out the new Barry M Gelly Hi Shine Lips range. I’m a big fan of their gel effect nail paints so if their lip crayons were of the same high standard I knew I’d be a happy girl!
There are 5 colours in the range (please please bring out more Barry M!) and I so far have bought four of them. I decided not to go for Shade 1 – Vega at the moment as it’s a darker plumier shade and I am all about the summer brights right now! The colours I have got are:
Shade 2 – Alpha – a bright orange toned red
Shade 3 – Electra – a vibrant Barbie hot pink
Shade 4 – Sirius – a bold raspberry pink
Shade 5 – Capella – a dusky baby pink
They all apply beautifully. They smooth on the lips with no pulling and have a really good colour pay out. No disappointing look-bold-but-are-actually-really-sheer lipstick woes here! As the name promises, they have a really glossy shiny finish and also last pretty well too.
The only negative thing I have to say about them is you don’t get very much product. The tube is very thin (which on one hand means you get a very precise point to draw with, and they don’t take up too much room in your handbag!) but they have to be sharpened not wound up. I haven’t sharpened mine as they’re so soft I think I’d literally end up with nothing and instead have been using a lip brush when they get too blunt. The fact they don’t wind up also means you really only get the centimetre or so you see when taking off the lid. They retail for only £4.99 each so don’t exactly break the bank, but I am already on my second Capella shade as I wore out the first one so quickly (and as you can see in these pictures this one is running low too – bad beauty blogger using my products before photographing!). Compared with the amount of product you get with other drug store lip crayons of the same price – like the Models Own Lip-Stix (full review here) – it’s pretty poor value.
Despite the lack of bang for your buck, these lip crayons are really pretty and I love the bright glossy finish they give as most of my other lip crayons are Matte. Sadly now though I only use them for a night out rather than day to day as I don’t want to wear them down too quickly, so they haven’t quite replaced the Models Own Lip-Stix as my choice crayons.
Have you tried the Barry M Gelly Hi-Shine Lips? How long did yours last?
