30 Day Snap Challenge | Day 31 - The end of the 30 Day Snap Challenge

Time flies when you're having fun

Well, it's the end of the 30 Day Snap Challenge for Thinking Outside the Pickle Jar! And you lucky lot got an extra day as I was a bit late on the bandwagon and picked up @Sprinkleofglitr's challenge in July rather than June! I decided to use my last day's Snap as a reflection over how I've spent the last 30 days and what I learnt / got up to!

July seemed to be a pretty busy month!

The first thing I noticed was wowza, quite a lot of food / eating out posts haha! Definitely something I need to work on, I must get healthy I must get healthy.... But eating out is a great way to explore the wonderous city that is London! Don't worry Pickles, I've got plenty more restaurant / food reviews still to come! And I did start exercising -  playing tennis and going to the gym to balance it all out!

I also think I did a pretty impressive number of outings this month - theatre trips to The Globe and The Book of Mormon, days out to see The Saturdays and Bon Jovi and lovely family trips- afternoon tea at The Ritz and birthday bbqs. I like to keep myself busy and spend lots of time exploring London and catching up with all my lovely friends and family!

The last 30 days have also shown me that I've had a bit of a lucky winning streak recently - always a nice thing! I don't know how I managed it but in the last 30 days I've won a Victoria Fox book, the entire set of Rimmel Apocalips and tickets to opening night of Indian Tempest at The Globe! These were all Twitter RT competitions, so easy to enter and such fun when you win! I absolutely love Twitter so do come on and say hello - @emsypickle :D

I think perhaps the most glaringly obvious thing the 30 Day Snap challenge has shown me is that I shop. A lot. H&M hauls, Primark goodies galore and so SO many nail polishes have been bought, along with much more! But hey, I've been having a clear out to make way for my new treats so that's ok right?!

I've really enojyed taking part in the Challenge, it's been great as a new blogger to have something to focus my posts and also let my readers get to know me a little better, and see what sort of things I enjoy and will be writing about in the future. I've also really enjoyed following other bloggers adventures throughout the month too.

I hope you've enjoyed following my 30 Day Snap Challenge, please do let me know if you hear of any more blogger challenges you think I'd enjoy taking part in!

30 Day Snap Challenge | Day 30 - Afternoon Tea at The Ritz

Afternoon tea fit for a queen

I have had such an amazing day today! My cousin Sophie turned 13 in May and to celebrate she wanted to go for afternoon tea, so to really treat ourselves my mum, aunty, two little cousins and I booked into the 1:30pm sitting at The Ritz.

Don't worry, the middle tier was filled up mid way through with fresh warm scones and new hot pots of tea YUM!

We had a truly wonderful time! I won't go into too much detail here, as it was such an amazing experience it deserves a whole post of it's own! (Watch this space....!)

The food, tea and champagne were all absolutely delicious and the setting was incredible. The dining room was so intricate and decorative, and a pianist accompanied our tea, playing modern songs with a classical twist. The staff were all so friendly and attentive, checking we were all ok, offering to take photos of us, making jokes with my 10 year old cousin and even giving her a postcard of the dining room and a copy of the menu to keep as a momento. We really were made to feel right at home (and I could definitely get used to having tea like that every day!)

Although I'm not sure my waistline would thank me for indulging in finger sandwiches (smoked salmon and lemon butter; cucumber, cream cheese and dill; wholegrain mustard and ham; egg and cress; roast chicken; and cheese and pickle) scones with jam and clotted cream, lemon drizzle cake, macaroons, chocolate cake, mille-feuille and strawberry trifle every day!

Thank you for such a wonderful afternoon The Ritz

30 Day Snap Challenge | Day 29 - Indian Tempest at The Globe Theatre

Another lucky Twitter win!

On Friday I won another Twitter RT competition (Seriously July has been my lucky month! still no lottery win though...) and this time I got 2 tickets to the opening night of Indian Tempest at The Globe Theatre and a couple of free drinks! Excellent!

My cousin and I had a really lovely evening, walking along the River to the theatre and enjoying a couple of beers before the show started. We had great seats in the Upper Gallery giving us a clear view of all the wonderful goings on of this inventive and original adaptation of Shakespeare's The Tempest.

I won't say any more here as I will do a full review shortly, but we had a really lovely evening and it was the perfect play to watch on a stormy night by the Thames!

Thanks for the tickets @swanabout

30 Day Snap Challenge | Day 28 - My name's Emsy, and I'm a polishaholic

So many nail polishes, not enough fingers

So today I have been continuing with my quest from last weekend, going through all my bits and bobs to de-clutter and tidy up! I decided to have a look through my nail polish collection and see just how many I have, as I keep them all in a wicker basket and it's quite hard to keep track of exactly what's in there. And what is in there you ask?! A heck of a lot of polishes!!! 181 individual colours to be precise!

I've split out the numbers of each brand below, let me know if you fancy any more detail!

This also made me think of a hilarious pic my friend sent me once which she said summed me up nicely!

And whilst you may think this would deter me from buying any more polishes, it's actually just made me realise the gaps in the market! I definitely need some more neon brights, a few more muted pastels, and of course, my quest for the perfect white polish continues!

How many nail polishes do you have?

Sunday Book Club | Divas Las Vegas - Belinda Jones

A sparkly spin in Sin City

I absolutely adored Belinda Jones’s The California Club (read my review here) when I first read it many moons ago, and couldn’t wait to read another of her novels. So I quickly got my mitts on Diva Las Vegas, and just as with The California Club, I've read it countless times in the years since.

I’ve always been obsessed with American culture and had always wanted to go to Las Vegas, but being 17 at the time and stuck at school, this wasn’t going to happen anytime soon! Thank goodness I had Divas Las Vegas to whet my appetite, and let me live vicariously through main characters Jamie and Izzy, until I too could finally hit Sin City.

30 Day Snap Challenge | Day 27 - Estella Bartlett 'Wish' Bracelet

Wish with love

Oh dear, it's not been the best Saturday for me! I woke up feeling a poorly Pickle, with a really bad sore throat and feeling achey all over :( I have spent pretty much all day lying in bed and feeling sorry for myself, watching Laguna Beach and playing Campus Life! However, I did perk up quite a bit when the post arrived with a little letter for me! My new Estella Bartlett Wish bracelet!

I had bought two of these Wish friendship bracelets at the Spirit of Summer Fair in May, one in navy / black and one in pink / red. I just thought they were so cute with their little silver stars and would look great layered up together. However unfortunately the navy one broke the first time I wore it sob sob! The bracelets are made up of two knots which means they can be adjusted, and one of the knots came undone. I emailed the company to ask if I could get a replacement and I got a reply back the next day saying of course they would! And it arrived today HURRAH! It came with a lovely little note from Harriet saying "This is our very last one so love it well!" which I thought was really cute! And don't worry, I will!

Thanks Estella Bartlett!

30 Day Snap Challenge | Day 26 - Friday treat!

I've got that Friday Feeling!

It's Friday wahooo!! I really have got that Friday Feeling today, and have been craving a Cadbury's Crunchie aaaaallllll day! However, I managed to resist all day and thought instead I'd have a Starbucks iced mocha to drink on my way to meet the girls for some drinks by the river! A little chocolately hit which will keep me cool on my walk to the Southbank!

Happy Friday Pickles!

30 Day Snap Challenge | Day 25 - H&M Sale Haul

I'm a sucker for a sale

Wahoo my H&M Sale order has arrived! I've been very excited about this! I picked up 3 new blazers each for less than £20, a gorgeous (and huge!) scarf for £6 and a fabulous pair of pink sparkly pumps for £4!! Oh you can't beat an H&M Sale!

I'd seen the lemon blazer aaaaaaages ago, but didn't want to spend £35 on it at the time, and thought I'd wait until the sale and if it was reduced then it is meant to be! And guess what?! It was obviously meant to be! And reduced down to £15 it's over half price off - my patience paid off! I'd also seen the trainers aaaaages ago in the Camden branch but there was a huge queue and I didn't have time to wait. When I went back to buy them a couple of weeks later they were all sold out! But again I got lucky in the online sale, huzzah!

I saw the black and cream blazers whilst perusing the website and they were a snap at only £17 each. I think the black and silver may be slightly too jazzy for me and I may end up returning it, but I LOVE the cream version! It just looks so lovely and classy, with gorgeous golden thread detailing and a nice structured silhouette, it looks a lot more expensive than £17. The scarf was another glorious find and was only £6! I love the bold black and white geometric print which also has a cool aztec feel to it. It's really large and quite thick, so will keep me nice and warm when the winter comes! It will also be great for festivals this summer - big enough to sit on during the day and cosy enough for warming up in the evening.

Have you picked anything up in the H&M sale?

Midweek Manicure | Barry M Gelly Hi Shine Nail Paint - Dragonfruit

I'm not usually a fan of pink nail polish, as it always seems a little too safe and boring to me. I much prefer a bold bright green or blue colour. However, my eye was really drawn to the gorgeous pink Barry M Gelly Nail Paint Dragonfruit. As good old Superdrug was doing a 3 for 2 deal across all nail products, I decided I had to try it. But has it changed my mind about pink polishes?

30 Day Snap Challenge | Day 24 - Broken bag :(

A bag for life....or not!

I accidentally broke one of my favourite bags today :( sob sob! It was at the bottom of my wardrobe housing lots of my shoes, and as I went to pull it out the handle got caught on something and it ripped all down one seam NOOOOOO!!

As I posted before, I am a terrible hoarder because I love the memories all of my clothes, shoes, bags etc hold. I got this bag in December 2007 whilst travelling around Australia and spend Christmas in Byron Bay. It was a really great experience, spending Christmas Day having a BBQ and pool party with everyone else in our hostel and this bag always reminds me of that. And of course, I love the pretty rainbow and dolphin design, and it also encompasses the laid back, hippy-ish vibe of Byron Bay.

I can't quite bring myself to throw this bag away (I know, I'm terrible!) so think I will cut out the image panel and put it in a frame on my bathroom wall, so I can still enjoy it's pretty picture and the memories it holds :)

Are you a hoarder like me? Please say I'm not the only one!!!

P.S - If anyone knows where I can buy this again please do let me know!! xx

30 Day Snap Challenge | Day 23 - It's all about the #RoyalBaby

I still can't reign in my excitement!

As you may have seen yesterday, I was VERY excited about the arrival of the Royal baby! I was really looking forward to seeing how all the papers and various brands would respond to the birth today (what can I say, I'm a marketing geek!). Lots of big brands were running ads mentioning our new heir and one of my fave ads I saw was the Coca-Cola #ShareaCoke ad on the back of the Metro.

I've been a huge fan of this campaign since it started, and have my own bottles of "Emma" Cokes. I thought it was a really cute, simple way of congratulating Wills and Kate, recognising one of the most important historical moments, and also spreading their brand. Bravo Coca-Cola, bravo!

Have you been enjoying all the coverage of the Royal baby?

30 Day Snap Challenge | Day 22 - Royal Baby Manicure

A manicure fit for a Prince

What a historic day! Kate Middleton has finally given birth to our new heir to the throne - AND IT'S A BOY!!! Weighing in at 8lbs 6 oz and born at 4:24pm. I love the Royal family and think they're such an important part of British culture and history. As soon as I saw Kate had gone into labour I was so excited, and also very quickly began to plan a Royal manicure (well what else would a polishaholic do to celebrate?!)

Congratulations Wills and Kate! I can't wait to hear what you name your little Prince!

Have you given your hands a Royal makeover? Send me your links / pictures!

xx emsypickle xx

P.S apologies for the very messy finish of this manicure! This ridiculous heat meant my polish went a bit gloopy and wouldn't dry properly so got quite smudged! I was also quite distracted watching all the news coverage of the birth! Gosh it is very very bad, I'm actually quite embarrassed!! :S

Sunday Book Club | Scandalous - Tilly Bagshawe

Who knew work was so fun?!

I have recently discovered Tilly Bagshawe as an author and I am absolutely hooked! I love her style of writing and the way she crafts likeable characters, exciting story lines and a real riotous read! Scandalous is no exception.

30 Day Snap Challenge | Day 21 - Quotes on the pavement

Every new beginning comes from some other beginning's end

My friend emailed me this picture she'd taken today of an inspirational quote she'd found chalked on the pavement of a central London square. I love a good profound quote and think there's something quite beautiful about stumbling across them in the way that she did. It always makes me think abut not only the meaning of the words, but also who may have written them and why.

I like this quote as it is a good reminder that change is a good thing and that opportunity is all around us, and whilst good things must come to an end, it's only so that new good things can start.

I have found this to be particularly relevant to me today (in rather an un-profound way!) as I have undergone the mammoth task of sorting out my wardrobe trying to rid myself of all items I no longer need / want. I'm a terrible hoarder and my tiny little flat is bursting at the seams with all my shoes, bags and clothes! Each time I've gone to hold onto something I haven't worn / used in over a year because I'm remembering the stories behind it, I've just had to remind myself that Every new beginning comes from some other beginning's end.... and each pair of shoes I throw out now I can replace with a brand spanking new pair wahoooo!! ;)

What's your favourite quote?

30 Day Snap Challenge | Day 20 - Birthday Cakes!

Big cakes for a little lady!

So today I went to my uncle's house to celebrate the 1st birthday of my cousin's little baby Amelie! She's an absolute sweetheart, a really happy baby and everyone had a really great time celebrating today!

The weather was gorgeous so we had a bbq, Pimms and lots of gossip galore sitting out in the garden! It was so nice to see lots of close friends and family all together complete with 2 crazy dogs running round, 3 contented cats basking in the sun and 4 babies including the birthday girl all enjoying a kiddies bouncy castle!

My cousin had made some AMAZING cakes to mark the occasion - vanilla and raspberry and double chocolate cupcakes, a wicked chocolate and cherry cake and possibly the best gingerbread I've ever tasted! She's promised to send me the gingerbread recipe so I will let you know how I get on at giving it a go!

Happy Birthday Amelie! I hope you enjoyed your party as much as we all did!

30 Day Snap Challenge | Day 19 - Hitting the Gym

FINALLY taking the plunge

So guys and dolls, I have finally stopped thinking about it and actually taken action and signed up to the gym! Big step for me as I am bit of a gym-phobe (lazy!) but decided enough was enough!

I've dug out my old trainers (seriously, I've had them since 2006! The fact they're still in pretty good condition shows just how little exercise I've done in the past 7 years!!) and sports kit and am about to embark on my gym induction session!

Wish me luck lovelies! Fingers crossed I survive!

30 Day Snap Challenge | Day 18 - Hollywood Sinners by Victoria Fox!

Prize Bonkbuster!

So last week I was extremely lucky and as well as winning the entire set of Rimmel Apolcalips I also won a copy of Victoria Fox's novel Hollywood Sinners! Amazing! I was very excited when I found it ready and waiting for me after work today!

I absolutely LOVE Victoria Fox's books. As I blogged before, I discovered her last summer when I read Temptation Island whilst on holiday.  I literally couldn't put it down! Seriously, I had a very brown back from lying on my front engrossed in my book! I'm currently re-reading this as I got a free copy from Starbucks Pick of the Week earlier this month, and can't wait to get stuck into Hollywood Sinners straight after too! Keep your eyes peeled for book reviews coming soon....!

Have you read any of Victoria Fox's books?

Midweek Manicure | Nail Art - Made in Chelsea Monochrome

Inspired by Binky!

So I'm a big an of Made in Chelsea, and love Binky and the clothes she wears - she always looks so effortlessly stylish, and like she hasn't needed all the immaculate polishing the other girls go for. I follow her on Twitter (@BinkyFelstead) and a few weeks ago saw she posted a pic of an amazing monochrome manicure she'd had. I loved it! Monochrome is a key trend at the moment and thought this edgy yet elegant manicure was a great way to try it out.....

Binky's manicure (pic taken from Binky's Twitter account @BinkyFelstead

Well mine didn't turn out quite as well as Binky's (shocker!) but I was still pretty impressed with my attempt! (Apologies for the pictures not being the best quality, I took them on my Blackberry). Haha I was terrified it would be more like Fail Art and like one of those hilarious "Pinterest Fail" Meme's! (Fingers crossed you don't think it looks like that!)

It was a really simple look to create. First I painted all my nails with a coat of white nail varnish. I've always been on the hunt for the perfect white nail varnish, which won't leave me looking like a school girl who'd been playing with tippex at lunch time (did anyone else use to do that?!) However for this look I wanted a really bold, bright white so did reach for one of my more tippexy cheaper polishes. I used L.A. Colours "French White".

I then used my Models Own Black Nail Art Pen to draw on the black rectangular detailing on my index and ring fingers (please stay steady hands, pleeeaseeee!). I began by drawing a sloping line starting from  the base of my nail tip to half way down the nail. I then drew 4 vertical lines to form the grid and coloured in the squares to mirror Binky's.

It actually went ok! The trickiest bit was drawing the dividing diagonal line, and if you look closely you can see I did make a small error on one finger, not taking it far enough down the length of the nail, so the bottom rectangles would have been very long and the top ones too short. I tried to cover it up with another layer of white but it didn't quite work! Though once the black rectangles were drawn and coloured in it didn't notice too badly!

Overall I was very happy with my attempt at Binky's Monochrome Manicure. It was relatively simple to create and looks smart enough for the office yet fun enough for the weekend. I def want to try this again, maybe experimenting with different colours for a jazzier effect!

What's your favourite nail art?

30 Day Snap | Day 17 - New boots! ASOS Sale

Bargain Boots!

Oh dear, another day another post confirming my shopping addiction! Today my fabulous new boots I picked up in the ASOS sale arrived! Hurrah! Now some of you may think I'm mad for buying black leather boots in the middle of this heatwave the UK is experiencing, but they were too good a deal to pass up!

They're real leather and have a really good thick sole, which is great for me as I always seem to ruin flat boots by scuffing the toes and wearing through till there's a hole. I love the silver riding ring detailing and they're a really wearable heel height. And best of all, they were only 30 POUNDS!!!!

I bought a really similar pair of boots from ASOS last winter and they're so versatile and comfy, I want to wear them all the time! However the inside lining has come unstuck and rucks down, meaning theyre not as soft and comfy on my feet as they once were. Cue beautiful new boots! I shall wear my new ones when the weather cools down, and keep my old pair for festivals! Excellent!

Have you bought anything in the ASOS sale?

30 Day Snap Challenge | Day 16 - Vintage sweeties - Sherbert dip dab!

Blast from the past

Omg who remembers these from their childhood?! I used to absolutely LOVE them! I always alternated my pocket money between buying a packet of polos, a sherert dip dab and a sherbert fountain (the one with the grim liquorice stick - that bit went straight to my dad!)

I saw these on sale in Sainsburys today for 35p each / 4 for £1. Well obviously I went for 4 for £1! Whilst not quite in keeping with the healthy eating regime I'm attempting at the moment, they are only 90 calories a go, and a nice (very) sweet treat! We'll just ignore the amount of sugar in them....!

Did you used to eat sherbert dip dabs? What were your favourite childhood sweets?

30 Day Snap Challenge | Day 15 - Chocolates and Cards

Baby shower fun!

Today was my lovely colleague Victoria's last day at work before she goes off on maternity leave. She gave me a little box of Lindor balls and very sweet thank you card to say thanks for helping to host her baby shower the other week.

I'm really going to miss her in the office as she's always so lovely and smiley, and loves a good gossip about The Apprentice and Made In Chelsea (essential "water cooler" moments!) It will be a sad time on Thursday when she's not there to discuss the ins and outs of The Apprentice finale! (Still can't decide whether I'm Team Leah or Team Luisa!) She's going to make such a lovely mum and I can't wait for her and baby to come back to visit!

It was so sweet of her to give me some chocs and a card as a thank you, and I'm so pleased she enjoyed the baby shower myself and 2 other colleagues planned for her! We all really enjoyed it and played a selection of games including The Name Game (where you have a list of meanings for the names of each person at the party and you have to match the right definition to the right name;) Baby Scramble (lots of baby related anagrams - a lot harder than it sounds, particularly if you know noing about babies like me!) and the Baby Animal Game (a quiz to correctly guess the baby name of several different animals). We had a lovely buffet, including as many pink treats as we could find (she's having a girl) including Party Rings and Pink Wafers (still delicious as an adult!) and lots of pink champagne (cranberry juice for our mum-to-be) yum!

Bonus Snap! How cute are these party favours we bought?!

Have you ever been to a baby shower? What games did you play?

30 Day Snap | Day 14 - Holiday Planning

We're all going on a summer holiday!

I had such grand plans today of tidying up my messy little flat, doing some baking and having a sunbathe and read of my book on Hampstead Heath. However I actually ended up spending most of my day researching places to go on holiday!

We're thinking of Turkey at the moment, most likely the Agean Region, having heard lots of great things and seeing many beautiful pictures of rugged rocky scenery and clear turquoise waters! Beautiful!

Now to make a final choice of accommodation and actually get booking!

Have you been to Turkey? Any hint or tips of where to go?

30 Day Snap | Day 13 - RIMMEL APOCALIPS!!!

Absolute Winner!

So if you follow me on Twitter (@emsypickle) you'll have seen that on Friday it was announced that I'd won THE ENTIRE SET OF RIMMEL APOCALIPS!!! How exciting!! And I was so surprised when on Saturday morning the postman rang my doorbell to deliver them! BEYOND EXCITING!

I'm quite a big fan of a Twitter RT competition as it's just so easy to enter! All I had to do was RT @Rimmellondonuk's message and follow both them and @BeautyMARTUK. Simples! I was so surprised and delighted when I won, and even more delighted when the postman rang my door on Saturday morning with a package for me to sign for! Talk about speedy delivery! Very impressed Rimmel, thank you! :D

I can't wait to try these beauties out, I've heard such amazing things about them, the range of colours and their intensity of pigmentation. The only questions is, which one to try first?!

Would you like me to do a full review of the Rimmel Apocalips?

xx emsypickle xx

P.S - UPDATE - apologies this is actually being posted on Day 14 morning. I wrote this then dashed out the door to a friend's bday picnic in Richmond Park and didn't actually press "Publish" doh! I blame the hysterical excitement of new lip glosses combined with the promise of friends, gin and crisps in the sunshine!

30 Day Snap Challenge | Day 12 - Summery shoes! - Primark peep toes

Warning - foot picture!

Haha sorry, I thought I'd start with a warning, as know lots of people are not a fan of feet!! I don't mind feet, and actually LOVE mine when they're encased in these gorgeous summery shoes! They were a total bargain, only £8 from Primark, and I've worn them so much since the sun decided to put his hat on!

I actually bought them at the beginning of June but we then had that horrid spout of rain and grey weather so couldn't get to wear them. Thankfully summer has come out in full since then and I've been able to get them out quite a lot.

I love the off white colour - I find properly white shoes a bit too bright and often cheap looking. The cut out detailing is really pretty and along with the peep toe design keeps my feet nice and cool. These go with every kind of outfit - trousers, skirts, leggings, EVERYTHING! I'm going to buy myself another pair soon as a back up, I can see my self wearing them so much they'll get worn out! They're a classic style so I know I'll want to wear them next summer too, and for only £8 it would be silly not to!

Do you like peep toe shoes? what kind of footwear have you been wearing in the sunshine?

30 Day Snap Challenge | Day 11 - Date night - Byron Burger Camden Town

2 burgers in 1 month, July is going well! ;)

We had planned to go to a bbq tonight but it got cancelled boo! Having set our hearts on some classic bbq food, the BF and I decided to head into Camden and treat ourself to a Byron burger!

I never used to be a fan of burger restaurants, thinking of burgers as something I'd only normally eat at a bbq or McDonalds, but after my AMAZING GBK burger on 4th July my opinion has changed!

And I think my Byron Burger was even better!

I went for the Byron Burger which was a cheese and bacon burger, cooked medium-well, with lettuce, red onion and special Byron sauce - DELICIOUS! Tony had the same and we decided to be real little piggies and share sides of fries, onion rings AND coleslaw. Well, it is a Thursday afterall!

What's your favourite burger restaurant?

Midweek Manicure - Barry M Limited Edition Summer 2013 - Green

I picked up this fab limited edition Barry M nail polish at Superdrug the other week in an offer where it was spend £6 and get either this vibrant green or a neon pink free. I'm not really a fan of pink nails, but seem to have quite a few, including a seriously neon pink by Zoya, so decided to try out this zingy green! I loved the jazzy aztec patterned lid, and thought it seemed a really fun colour for summer, and would help me channel a bit of Wimbledon spirit!

I was actually surprised how much I liked this colour! It's quite unusual - not quite lime green, but a bit brighter than the spring greens I have in my collection. I wasn't sure whether I would find it very wearable, however I really liked how it looked on and it's added a great pop of colour to every outfit I've worn.

It applied well, though it is quite sheer. I've got two coats on here and you can still see the tips and crescent on some nails. I could probably have put a third coat on to even it out and added more opaqueness, but I always find any more than 2 coats and my polish is too thick and just peels off. I also kind of think this sheerness suits this colour! It feels like a really nice translucent gloss on my nails! As with all Barry M nail polishes I found it dried with a nice shiny finish, which I enhanced and sealed with a top coat (Save the Nail Wet Look Topcoat).

The only thing I found slightly disappointing with this colour is that it is not nearly as neon as it appears in the bottle. Bright yes, neon no! But the flip side of that is that I can still enjoy this pretty bold nail polish, AND have an excuse to buy another in the search for an ultra vibrant neon green! Watch this space.....!

Did you buy either this green or the pink limited edition Summer 2013 Barry M nail paints?

30 Day Snap Challenge | Day 10 - The best item of clothing I've ever bought. Ever!

......No seriously, it is!

So today I decided that enough was enough and I had to stop spending all my lunch hour spending all my money! So I naively decided I'd just pop out for a quick walk in the sunshine and then head back to the office to eat my sandwiched away from temptation! Oh best laid plans! Five minutes into my stroll, I got waylaid by THE RIVER ISLAND HALF PRICE SALE!!!!! Well if that wasn't exciting enough, I walked straight in and saw THE MOST AMAZING ITEM OF CLOTHING EVER!!!!!

It's a My Little Pony multi coloured tie die, hooded playsuit with stars and unicorns on!!!!!! What's not to love?!

Whilst not necessarily one of my most sensible purchases, I do think it's absolutely fabulous! It's super comfy for lounging around in and will be excellent for festival season! Reduced from £28 to £15, how could I say no?!

What do you think of my new purchase?

The Book of Mormon – Prince of Wales Theatre

The Musical of Amazingness

As you may have seen as part of my 30 Day Snap challenge posts, last week I went to see The Book of Mormon. Now I’m not a huge fan of South Park (shock horror I know!) but have seen and loved Jerry Springer the Opera and Avenue Q, so was really looking forward to some outrageously hilarious theatre! I was not disappointed!

30 Day Snap | Day 9 - Tennis Time!

Wimbledon Wannabe!

Today I decided it was time to don my trainers and get out and have a game of tennis! I used to play when I was younger (and was apparently quite good!) but then got older, discovered McDonalds and sitting around, and am now terribly unfit!! So, I decided that as the weather is so good and there's a tennis court by my work, I should channel my inner Kournikova and get playing!

Well my inner Kournikova is very, VERY well hidden haha! Think I'm definitely more Boris Becker...and probably more like Boris Johnson lol! Good "game" might be pushing it, but we had a really good time hitting the ball to each other, and seeing how big a volley we could get! I seem to have no problem hitting the ball, it's hitting it actually to the other player which is my downfall! My poor bf was running around all over the place trying to return the ball!

Never mind, it was a good little starter session and a fun way to get fit! As they say practice makes perfect. Wimbledon 2014 here I come.....!

Have you been inspired by Wimbledon to play tennis? What's your favourite way to keep fit?

Barclaycard British Summer Time Festival – Hyde Park

Festival fun in the London sun!

As you may have seen from my 30 Day Snap posts here and here, this weekend I was lucky enough to enjoy the beautiful London sunshine in Hyde Park for the Barclaycard British Summer Time events! Hyde Park is hosting the events from 5th – 14th July, with lots of free film screenings, fitness workshops and foodie demonstrations during the week, and ticketed gigs (with some incredible headliners) at the weekends. With The Rolling Stones, Elton John and Lionel Richie all topping the bills it’s a great line up! I was lucky enough to see Bon Jovi on Friday night and The Saturdays / The Beach Boys / JLS on the Sunday!

30 Day Snap | Day 8 – Primark Haul

Always time for shopping!

So in between all the soaking up the sun, Wimbledon watching and festival fun this weekend I managed to take a little trip to Primark, and came back with quite a big bag!

I got…..

  • 3 x pairs of shoes
  • 3 x dresses
  • 2 x knee high tights
  • 1 x sunglasses case
  • 2 x sunglasses (actually from TK Maxx)

……And a partridge in a pear tree!

Phew! No wonder I needed a glass of Gin Pimms and lie in the sun after that lot!

The shoes are (almost) all sensible purchases - a pair of black pumps that will be great for work, the same pair in beige which will look cute with little summery skirts, and then a not-so-sensible-but-totes-adorbs pair of glittery eared mouse shoes :) Everyone needs a pair of novelty shoes every now and then!

The dresses are all the same style but different colours – a really nice shift dress in floaty fabric ideal for summer! I got one in cream, cream with a red woodland bird motif and my go-to colour navy.

Knee high tights – pretty standard, don’t need an explanation really! And the sunglasses case which I thought would be good to protect my non-prescription sunnies which are usually relatively cheap but still need to be looked after! The material is a thick kind of rubber which will stop the lenses from being scratched and hopefully be sturdy enough to offer some protection whilst they’re in my bag / if someone (*cough* me) sits on them, which definitely happens more than it should!

As I’d bought a sunglasses case, I thought it only right I nab me some new sunglasses to put in them! So I stopped by T K Maxx and got a pair of Steve Madden aviators and Storm Wayfarer-esque glasses for £12.99 each! Blinding (or not, hopefully!)

Have you been shopping for summer?

30 Day Snap | Day 7 - THE SATURDAYS!!!

Sunday is the new Saturday

I've literally had the best day ever! I went back to Hyde Park for the British Summer Time "Family Day Out" to see my fave girl band The Saturdays! I LOVE these girls!! They're my ultimate (not so) guilty pleasure! And did such a great set today!

I had a really fun girlie day in the park with 9 of my girlfriends (and one boyfriend who couldn't wriggle out of it!), soaking up the summer sun and having a good old gossip!

I was there mainly to see The Sats and wasn't dissappointed as they did a fab set, playing all their popular tunes including "Ego", "Higher", "What About Us" and new song "Gentlemen". They all had so much energy and paid lots of attention to the crowd, waving and reading out fans' banners! I hope they had as much fun performing as I did watching them!

Are you a fan of The Saturdays? How have you been enjoying the weekend's wonderful weather?

P.S - you can read my review of The Saturdays Headlines tour here - yes, today is the 3rd time I've seen them live!! I told you I loved them :)

30 Day Snap | Day 6 - Watching Wimbledon in Style

Gin Pimms and Fun in the Sun!

Wow what gorgeous weather we've had in London today! I decided I'd head back to my parents' house for the day to really make the most of the sunshine in their beautiful garden!

Mummy Pickle is known for her excellent lunches, so it was no surprise there was a delicious spread of walnut loaf, olives, chorizo, salami and a selection of cheeses ready and waiting for me! She also mixed up a jug of Sipsmith's Summer Cup, which is like a gin based Pimms-style drink, which is our new fave tipple of choice! We discovered it at the Spirit of Summer fair last month and have been drinking it ever since! It's such a nice light summery drink, but without all the sweetness of Pimms which I find a bit too sugary. I highly recommend it (particularly if you're a big gin fan like me!) Mum usually finds gin literally to be mother's ruin, but she loves Sipsmith's, so it must be good!

My dad decided to take our lovely lunch to the next level of awesomeness by setting up a tv outside so we could keep up to date with the Wimbledon ladies final! Excellent work! We really Aced watching Wimbledon in style!

How have you been enjoying the sun today?

30 Day Snap Challenge | Day 5 - Bon Jovi!

It's My Life!

So first thing's first - apologies this is actuallybeing posted on the morning of Day 6! The boyfriend went to bed early last night taking the laptop with him so didn't want to wake him up! I got in quite late as I went to see BON JOVI!!

Livin' On A Prayer!

My lovely cousin had a spare ticket so invited me along, and we had such a fun night! Hyde Park looked amazing with lots of fun fair rides, themed bars and farmers market style food stalls, all decked out in bright colours and fairy lights! We had a really fun evening chilling out in the sun and supping ciders whilst having a good old catch up! And of course, Bon Jovi was really great! I don't know all his songs, but he did a really good set, mixing in his biggest hits with his lesser known (to me!) songs.

Are you going to any of the British Summer Time events in Hyde Park?

30 Day Snap Challenge | Day 4 - Happy Independence Day

Fourth of July Feast

To celebrate Independence Day my colleagues and I decided to treat ourselves to an all-American lunch and went to GBK to grab some burgers!

I had the Cheese & Bacon burger and being the fussy pickle that I am, asked for bbq sauce on the side, no tomato and added an onion ring for good measure (and good measure it was too, they gave me THREE!!) And here is the glorious end result:

It was AMAZING! a burger fit for a President!

Now whilst being a Londoner through and through, I have a huge love for all things American, particularly having spent 2 summers working at an all-girls residential summer camp (the best thing I've ever done! EVER!). Celebrating the 4th of July was always a great experience at camp and so I always like to wish my many stateside friends a happy holiday, and celebrate in my own little way at home.

And of course, I do love any excuse to eat a whopping great burger without feeling too guilty.....!

Have you done anything to mark Independence Day? Would you be interested in hearing more about my time at camp?

30 Day Snap Challenge | Day 2 - New books

Bonkbuster book club!

Very excited today as I got not one but TWO new books! I love reading, and mostly go for a good lighthearted dose of chicklit or a bold bonkbuster! With the summer finally here in London (pleeeeeaaasseeee stay sunny!) I thought I'd treat myself to a good beach read (even if I will more likely be reading it on the tube!)

I've recently discovered Tilly Bagshawe's books and love how engaging they are! I literally can't put them down, and have read "Fame", "Friends and Rivals" and "Scandalous" all in quick concession. I ordered "Adored" from Amazon as a payday treat, and was so excited to find it had been delivered today. I can't WAIT to read it! Keep your eyes peeled for a review coming here soon!

I also grabbed myself this week's "Pick of the Week" voucher from Starbucks when getting a peppermint tea this morning and was delighted to see it was Victoria Fox's AMAZING "Temptation Island". I read this book last summer in Morocco having borrowed it from the library and really enjoyed it! I'm thrilled to be given a free copy and can't wait to read it again! Thanks Starbucks!
Def go grab yours tomo!

Are you a fan of chicklit / bonkbusters? Do you have any good books you can recommend me?

30 Day Snap Challenge | Day 1 - Me!

Jumping on the bandwagon!

I have seen on the blogosphere that lots of lovely bloggers have been taking part in a 30 Day Snap challenge, where they post a picture everyday of June. Well, a bit late on the bandwagon, I thought I'd do it for July! (And do 31 days, obvs!)

@Sprinkleofglitr's opening image about the 30 Day Snap Challenge
The challenge was started by @Sprinkleofglitr and I've loved looking through her pictures (sprinkleofglitter.blogspot.co.uk) and those of all the other bloggers who have taken part. I hope my photos will be just as entertaining and interesting!

It seems a really fun way to document your adventures for a month! I thought it would be a good idea for Thinking Outside the Pickle Jar, as my blog is relatively new, and would be a good way for my lovely readers to get to know me a bit better.

So, here is my Day 1 picture.... Me! :)
