The California Club – Belinda Jones

California dreaming - the perfect holiday read!

The California Club is one of my all-time favourite books, so it seemed fitting that it should be the first book I review for Thinking Outside the Pickle Jar. I bought and first read this book in 2003 and I’ve read it at least once a year since!  It’s like an old friend which I turn to whenever I want a really good comfort / laugh / cheer up / time. It’s the ultimate feel good chick lit with loveable characters, an involved storyline and amazing locations!

Lifestyle | David Bowie is - V and A Museum

I went along to the much hyped and publicised David Bowie is exhibition at the Victoria and Albert museum, and my goodness, David Bowie is INCREDIBLE! The exhibition was a real deep delve into all aspects of Bowie’s life – looking at his creative influences, outputs and extraordinary successes in the music, art and fashion worlds, and charting his transformation from Bromley boy to the ultimate Star Man.

View into the gift shop and a stack of exhibition souvenir books.

Lifestyle | Theatre Review - One Man, Two Guvnors, Theatre Royal Haymarket

First thing's first - GO SEE THIS PLAY, IT'S AMAZING!!

Right, now I've got that burst of excitement over with, on with the review!

This was one of the most exciting, funny and entertaining plays I've seen in a long time. My boyfriend got us tickets as part of my birthday present way back in February, so I was worried it wouldn't live up to the rave reviews I've heard, or the long build up.

How wrong I was!

Lifestyle | Theatre Review - Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Theatre Royal Drury Lane

The Golden Ticket in Town

For my friend’s birthday present we took a trip to see Charlie and the Chocolate Factory at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane, just off Covent Garden, and I’m so glad we did as it was one of the best shows I’ve ever seen!

Lifestyle | Restaurant Review - Shrimpy's, King's Cross Filling Station

Shrimpy portions at King sized prices

It was my fabulous friend Faye's birthday recently and to celebrate she organised a trip to pop up hot spot "Shrimpy's" at the King's Cross Filling Station.

I have to admit, I wasn't expecting much from our brunch as I'm not really a fan of pretentious "trendy" places, and sadly on this occasion it lived up to my poor expectations!

The concept of the restaurant is cool, using an old BP petrol station and revamping it to make it look like a 60's American diner, and as the petrol station is due for demolition in 2014, there is quite a temporary design and feel which I rather liked - it reminded me of a kitsch theme area you might find at a festival! (Though some of my friends were not impressed with the "luxury portaloo" style toilets!)

So why didn't I enjoy it?

Beauty | O.P.I Union Jack Pure Lacquer Nail Apps

Spice up your nails!

I went to go see Viva Forever! at the Piccadilly Theatre and decided this was the perfect time to try out my O.P.I Collectors Edition Pure Lacquer Nail Apps in "Union Jack" which simply ooze 90's Girl Power!

Lifestyle | Theatre - Viva Forever!, Piccadilly Theatre

Viva Forever!...or not!

So you've probably heard that Viva Forever! has been cut short, finishing its run at the Piccadilly Theatre after just over 6 months.  I went along to see for myself to see why. Afterall, a musical written by Jennifer Saunders based on the music of the Spice Girls can only be amazing right?!

Oh Mama, how wrong I was.

Lifestyle | Theatre - To Kill A Mockingbird - Regent's Park Open Air Theatre

I was lucky enough to be taken along to see To Kill A Mockingbird at the Regent's Park Open Air Theatre as a corporate hospitality guest. Unluckily it was on a very wet and very cold British "summer" night.

But did the weather dampen my enjoyment of this Jem of a production?  Absolutely not!

Beautiful setting! The stage at the beginning of the performance.
